That therapists heal when we integrate our caretaking into the totality of our identity, rather than being defined by it.
You as a healer have amazing, important skills and gifts to serve others. Through individual and group coaching experiences, I will help you get into right relationship with those healing talents, to help you see that they are an expression of, rather than the entirety of who you are.
For as long as you can remember, you’ve been the go-to person amongst friends and family for advice and support. It’s not that you intended for it to be that way, it just sort of happened. Taking care of other people has always come naturally to you.
So of course you went to school to be a therapist. Picking a career path didn’t even require much thought, because being there for other people, being tuned in to their needs and struggles, is inherently a part of who you are. Compassion and empathy are your superpowers.
At family gatherings, it was you who was called on to settle an argument, or help someone figure out how to get their life together.
New people finding out what you do for work respond in 1 of 2 predictable ways:
They ask you “Are you analyzing me right now?” and proceed to keep a cautious distance.
Or, they dump a bunch of heavy, emotional stuff on you about the challenges they’re facing, without ever checking in with you to see if you have the enery to deal with it.
Amongst friends, it feels impossible to open up about your own struggles and issues, because the expectation is that, as a mental health professional, you must always have your shit together all the time.
Eventually, you feel like you have nothing left to give anyone; especially yourself. You can’t even remember what it’s like to feel happy or nourished.
As a licensed therapist for over a decade, I am deeply familiar with the particular experiences I write about here. Spending the last few years supporting others through the never-ending chaos of the world has brought these experiences into even sharper focus for me. The call to serve others has always felt like a natural extension of my personality and gifts, and at one point, it also felt like a heavy burden. At one point I forgot who I was beyond what I did for a career, I feel resentful, tapped out, exhausted on a soul level. I lost my identity. What I’ve learned in this experience is how all too easily the healing work that we do for others can end up consuming our identities, and when this goes unchecked, it leads to some very unpleasant, isolating experiences.
And, I know that it doesn’t have to be this way; we don’t have to unconsciously engage in our work for years on end only to arrive at a massive identity crisis. In fact, I believe so strongly that it shouldn’t; that when we lose our identities to the work that we do, we lose our ability to make a positive impact on the world because we’re not showing up to serve whole and integrated. This is why I’m passionate about coaching fellow therapists and healers. I’ve combined my personal and professional experiences to design coaching experiences that guide you through the necessary processes and shifts in identity exploration to help you get into right relationship with service to others.
I create customized coaching experiences, to best suit the needs of the wonderful unique humans that I serve. You’re not cookie cutter, so why should your coaching package be?
